5 Things I Plan To Do Differently In 2019

First off, Happy New Year!!! Everything is always a blur for me –ringing in the new year, mainly because it’s also my anniversary so I’m usually unplugged and sharing the moment with my husband.

But generally, always take some time during these last few days of the year to reflect on my the year that I’ve had, and how pleased I was with it. I also take that time to come up with long term goals and intentions for what’s ahead. Instead of a resolution, let’s work on a plan. If you haven’t already come up with a plan for your year, maybe mine will inspire you. Here are 5 things I plan to do differently this year.

  1. Take Time Off. I can honestly say I’ve never taken any time off from working. Over the past few years I’ve developed a “no days off” mentality and that’s just dangerous. Even God rested. It got so bad that I’ve even worked on extremely important days like my birthday, the day before my wedding, and I even snuck in an email or two during my honeymoon. It actually hurts me to even type that. I’m learning to close the MacBook, and turn my phone on sleep mode. I must take time off this year.
  2. Set A New Bottom Number. In 2017 I was able to develop a good budget and spending habit towards the end of the year. This year, I want to do more. I’ve decided I’m no longer letting my bank account get to $0. I’m setting a new 0. So I will cut off my spending once I hit $300 in my account. Why? Because I refuse to be broke, ever again.
  3. Create A Better Morning & Night Routine. Lately I’ve only been waking up in enough time to get ready and head out of the door for work; and at night, I work until it’s time for bed usually. I want to change that. I would like to wake up early enough to simply be present, get focused, enjoy a cup of coffee and some form of protein and not feel rushed. At night I want to cut off all work by 8pm, so that I can enjoy down time with my husband, then relax before bed. This is a major deal for me this year.
  4. Make Monthly Investments. I’ve been doing my research on smart investments. For years I was anxious about them because I didn’t understand the language and I simply thought I didn’t have enough money to “front” an investment. After learning more, I’ve discovered that you don’t really need a lot of money to make smart investments. Instead you just need consistent money. This year I plan to put any extra money I have at the end of the month aside for investment purposes, stocks, accounts with great interest, etc. This shouldn’t be too hard, because I would normally spend that money on shoes anyway lol.
  5. Check In On My Loved Ones. The sad part about this is, I’m typically really good at keeping in touch –but towards the end of 2018 I noticed I became less and less available to my friends. Partially because I started my dream job and had to adjust my life to a structured 9-5. But also because I just didn’t put forth the extra effort. I plan to check in more. A simple call, even a card to share that I’m thinking of someone. We all have to do better with checking in.

What are some things you want to change in 2019? I plan to follow up with this in June, to make sure we are all on track with our 2019 goals!
