Darling Retro Chic Summer

Y’all, this retro chic black tropical midi dress from Torrid is my entire mood for summer. I’m not a big fan of hot summer days, but these fun sundresses from Torrid have made me think otherwise. The colors, the texture, the shape all screams for a celebration. This skater dress in particular really digs into my personal style because it’s line with tulle for volume; but don’t worry, there’s a slip in between the tulle layers so you don’t get itchy and hot!

Paired with bright colored sandals, and fun sunglasses … mood set!

My Summer Theme & How I’m Doing Things

The first day of summer was just days ago, and I’m making it my business to get ahead of the curve literally and figuratively. For me, summer is my busy season. My clients schedules are super demanding which makes my personal life a little hectic. There isn’t much space for me to have downtime between June and September. I try my best to squeeze lemonade out of these lemons.

With that said, I’m finding a balance this summer. Last week was BET weekend, which was insane for my calendar, and next week is Essence Fest, which will be even more crazy. But between these hectic days, you will find me checking out to enjoy my first summer as a new wife with my husband. Random road trips are in the works, endless pool days, late nights binge watching our favorite shows, lots of roof top brunch dates overlooking our new favorite city. I’m being selfish, and I’m super excited about it!

For some reason this Marigold Yellow Chiffon Dress from Torrid gives me the vibe of my summer theme. The theme is balance, and this dress really screams that for me. It makes me feel relaxed and comfortable but still gives me enough formality to be paired with cute shoes and heels for an evening out on the town. So this gorgeous sundress along with the theme of my summer is not losing sight of balance. As much hard work as I put in, I should also find time to enjoy life.

Part Two of My Eloquii x Draper James Obsession

If you don’t know already, I pretty much feel like this Draper James collection for Eloquii was made for me! All of the beautiful patterns and shapes literally speaks to my life on so many levels. I’m not surprised that Reese Witherspoon spearheaded this collection herself, after all she is the ultimate southern belle.

There was one more look that I couldn’t resist sharing, it was this one-of-a-kind midi skirt (linked here) and this adorably fun striped shirt (linked here). While most would shy away from mixing patterns, leave it to me to break the rules honey! I found that this fun skirt and this stripe button up worked seamlessly together.

Aside from how fun and flirty this look is, I really want to chat about something you can’t necessarily “see,” and that’s THE QUALITY of the clothes. I’ve been shopping Eloquii for a while now; in fact, it’s a fave amongst some of my friends. Literally 99% of my boss/mentor’s closet is Eloquii (Hi Toya!) What I find that makes us all returned customers is the craftsmanship in Eloquii’s clothes. You literally get what you pay for, in a good way. The quality of the materials are made to endure long-term wear, and the extra details from the company takes your personal shopping experience to the next level. I’m usually leaping for joy every time an Eloquii package arrives at my door.

How Eloquii & Reese Witherspoon’s Draper James Collection Stole My Southern Heart

*Please read this in my deepest southern draw.* Now sweetheart listen, when I learned that the most southern belle of them all, Reese Witherspoon was teaming her lifestyle brand Draper James with my favorite plus size brand, Eloquii, for a limited edition spring collection … well, I nearly fainted!

Seriously, Draper James x Eloquii, it doesn’t get any better than this! This entire collection proclaims all of the nearest and dearest charming elements of true southern fashion that I absolutely love; statements like over sized prints, bright colors, florals, ruffles, and lace. I had to put some of the styles to the ultimate test, and I must say they are all FABULOUS darling. This Magnolia Vines Shift Dress (shop link HERE) is one of my favorites.

The bright blue is perfect for spring, and the large pattern makes great for a true southern statement piece. You know we like our prints big enough to be seen across the Mississippi River! But what I loved most was the comfort. I don’t like to compromise my comfort for my sense of style, I like to have both. This dress was so easy, light weight, and functional enough to just slip on before jetting out of the door. Something so vibrant doesn’t need a lot of work, a fun earring, and a cute clutch … boom, you have your entire look together!

How To Dress Sexy And Not Trashy

“If you got it, flaunt it, boy I know you want it …”

People always ask why I’m so quick to throw on a ‘freakum dress’. The truth is, I just love the way my body looks in them!

I’ve learned over the years there’s a huge difference in dressing sexy versus dressing trashy. I’m talking Jada Pinkett-Smith, Tracee Ellis-Ross, grown-woman-sexy. I have a few rules I apply when dressing sexy, I wanted to share them with you so that you can implement them into your closet.

Find Your Confidence. Nothing’s more annoying than an insecure girl in a tight dress. So if you’re going to wear that sexy little number, you better OWN IT honey. That means quit tugging at your skirt rising, or pulling up your low cleavage, because you clearly bought the wrong size if you have to keep adjusting it. Go confidently in your look. The sexy outfit is only half of the statement, the way you look and feel in it is what truly matters.

Find Balance. My rule of thumb in dressing sexy and not trashy is to choose a focus. Everything should not hang out! If you’re going to wear your midsection out, then consider covering your thighs with pants or a midi dress/skirt. If you’re thighs or legs will be out, cover up your top. You tend to look a little ‘Snooky-Jersey-Shore’ trashy if you wear your stomach, thighs, and cleavage out at the same time. It can be overwhelming to say the least. So find a focus and balance everything you wear around that.

*Style Tip – If you’re a pear shape like me with wide hips and a small waist, focus on your small waist. When I’m feeling sexy I always go for a crop top. I focus on my waist being exposed and I usually cover my thighs for balance.

Accessorize. This may be my second favorite way to dress up my sex appeal. Accessories take you a long way. Those elongated earrings always makes me feel like a hottie; especially if I’m wearing a basic dress. A sultry lip can easy dress up your look. And let’s not forget, the shoes always makes the outfit. My current fave is a strappy block heel. The straps scream sex appeal, while the block heel finds a balance so that I don’t look like I’m trying too hard.

Bottom line, find your groove that works for you and rock with it. For me, I always go for effortless sex-appeal. I never want to look like I’ve planned my outfit out days in advance.
